Is it me, or are children's toys so much more expensive then they used to be? Sure, I know about adjusting for inflation and all that, but check out this excerpt for a book about toys of the 70's and 80's.
Oh, I almost forgot. Every year, me and my girlie make a gingerbread house but I was a bit sad this year because she did the whole thing herself. She didn't need me at all. (sniff sniff) Actually, the only thing I did was constantly say, "don't eat all the gum drops!"

My girl wants a barbie that also happens to be an Mp3 player, something called an "IM ME" and her own cell phone. I told her the cell phone was out, after all, if she's with me, she can borrow my cell phone. Then we talked about the fact that she already has an mp3 player. "But dad," she said. "It's not the same thing!" She's right. It's not.
Oh, she wants "High School Musical" bedding, and that includes all the "fixings": curtains, lamps, a little matching locker, etc...
Can anybody remember being a girl back in the 70's and the kinds of things you did?
IF YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S...
1. You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.
2 You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.
3. You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.
4 You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)
5. You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.
6. You had either a 'bowl cut' or 'pixie', not to mention the 'Dorothy Hamill'People sometimes thought you were a boy.
7. You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.YEAH!
8. You owned a 'Slip-n-Slide' , on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once.
9. You owned 'Klick-Klacks' and smacked yourself in the face more than once!
10. Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.
11. You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.
12. You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.
13. You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits, or the Sunshine Family.
14. You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze.
15. The swing set tipped over at least once.
16. You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh yeah!)
17. You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle).
18. You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.
19. You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on thePrairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture;and you despised Nellie Oleson!
20. You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink!PONG! ('video tennis' ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of !
21. Your hairstyle was described as having 'wings' or 'feathers' and you kept it 'pretty'with the comb you kept in your back pocket. When you walked, the 'wings' flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna 'take off'.
21. You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.
22. You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic. It had a thermos inside. Some were glass and broke the first time you dropped them.
23. You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.
24. YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!
25. It was a big event in your household each year when the 'Wizard of Oz' would come on TV.Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!
26. You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: 'Who will I marry.Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?
27. You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record albums.
28. You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage,or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.
29. You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!
30. You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.
31. You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.
32. You thought Olivia Newton John's song 'Physical' was about aerobics. (its not??)
Times change, huh?

OMG...you were stalking me when I was 10? LOL
I had a bike with a yellow banana seat and monkey bar handles with long fringes hanging from the ends. Whoo hoo. Not only was the whole thing yellow but it had sparkles too! AND then there were the little gadget things to put on the spokes that came inside boxes of cereal.
*memories*
Oh, I remember all that. And I wasn't even a girl.
Oh yes times do change.
Love the gingerbread house!
I was an 80's baby but I did have real roller skates and a fischer price doctors set LOL.

hahaha the list, oh yes....I remember the 70s all too well. Many of those things EXCEPT the Osmund dolls I had....I do NOT like the Osmonds heck, I dont even know how to spell their name. I think they are a strange bunch.
I wish you all the luck with gifts this Holiday season. Santa's budget gets used up fast doesnt it?
about the link you left me. yes, I answered your questions. Sadly I am all too aware of the barbaric practice that goes on in China. I watched a documentary special about 8-10 years ago on it, it still haunts me like a bad nightmare. I wish I had NEVER watched that film.
Our wee girl (7yrs old) told santa she wanted an jet plane, you know, a REAL one!!! Hmmm, have no idea where we will park it! Hope he doesn't get it for her... ha ha ha!
trish: Yep, I was stalking you back then. I was the kid who lived next door. (smile)
dorky dad: lol! Well, alrighty then!
casdok: She's pretty good with food. Maybe she'll be a chef one day...
louann: The fischer Price doctors set were cool, right?
beth: Yep! That barbie is actually very cool.
bg: She's good, isn't she? I think she uses Crazy Glue.
About the horse thing, I couldn't believe people could be so mean to such beautiful creatures.
chris h: A jet plane? lol!!! She dreams big! Good for her.
LOL! That was totally me in the 70's! OMG...Thanks for the blast from the past! I loved that Fisher Price doctor's kit! LOL!
Times have certainly changed. Unbelievable just how much they've changed, isn't it?
PS. I'm impressed with Girlie Girl! Making those gingerbread houses is hard! I always have a rough time getting those walls to stay together! LOL!
